THE CONTENT AND AIM OF THE PROGRAM

This course focuses on the advanced levels of four and six-fold patterns which have been studied in levels two and three. We will study the methods deduced from the historical primary sources and draw the patterns with a ruler and compass construction. We will approach the examples from all across the Muslim world from the context of the history of architecture. Aside from the historical process, students will be introduced to contemporary approaches in methodology. Dr. Serap Ekizler Sönmez will use her own approach and methods of analysis to explain the connections between a range of patterns within the framework of “kinship”, a concept she has introduced to the literature. By doing so, students will achieve a holistic perspective and explore the possibilities to construct new patterns.
