GENERAL INFO:
Course Title: Islamic Illumination
Course Schedule: Wednesday: 4 PM UTC (convert to local timezone)
September 6 - December 20, 2023 [Winter Break] January 10 - February 28, 2024 [Ramadan Break] April 17 - May 8, 2024
Course Format: Online
Prerequisites: Şahkulu Apprenticeship Students Only. Must have completed previous projects with Fatma Hocam

Tezhip Certification Achievement Levels
Level 1: Intermediate Level Certification
Completion of introductory coursework and Karamemi Apprenticeship Program with Fatma Sirajuddin Hoca. The final class is Primary Source Analysis, in which students will reproduce the fundamental Tezhip artwork of pioneering Masters. Students must complete all coursework with approval from Fatma Hoca.
Level 2: Advanced Level Certification
Completion of 1-2 years of masters-level coursework with Ayse Gulcen Ozbalak Hoca. Students must complete all coursework with approval from Ayse Hoca.
Level 3: Master Level Certification
Completion of Hilya Tezhip project. This will be designed and completed under the guidance of a Master Tezhip artist.
Classes will be conducted online using Zoom, and Whatsapp will be used for communication, sharing information, and homework.
A detailed list of required materials will be provided through email to students.

INSTRUCTOR:
Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Istanbul University in 1987. She began her illumination training in 1986 under the guidance of Nilüfer Kurfeyz at the Foundation of Islamic Civilization. In 1988, she successfully completed the program and received a completion certificate from the Ministry of Culture.
Continuing her illumination education, Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak joined the Tarih ve Tabiat Vakfı, where she continued her studies under the mentorship of Nilüfer Kurfeyz. Eventually, Kurfeyz moved to another institution, and Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak took over teaching the illumination classes at Tarih ve Tabiat Vakfı.
