The team at Deen Arts Foundation has always been dedicated to the tradition of holding in-person classes. Since the breakout of the global pandemic, we have shifted to a fully online format. Our online classrooms have catered to over 500 students from over 25 different countries.
Our programs have been recognized by leading scholars, organizations, and universities in the Islamic arts. We are currently establishing internship programs in Islamic art capitals such as Istanbul and are scheduling expansion to other regions and their diverse Islamic art traditions.
Deen Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization, established in 2017 in Dallas, Texas. It is dedicated to celebrating, transmitting, and preserving the visual and performing Islamic Arts. Our name Deen (Arabic: دين, Romanized: Dīn) is an Arabic word with three general senses: judgment, customs, and religion. It is used by both Muslims and Arab Christians. In Islam, the word refers to the way of life Muslims must adopt to comply with divine law, encompassing beliefs, character, and deeds.
Drawing from the meaning of the term "Deen" in the Islamic context, we aim to bridge the lack of opportunities to understand Islamic Arts from both aesthetic and philosophical perspectives in today’s modern context. Through our classes in Islamic calligraphy, manuscript illumination, and geometric patterns, students are able to study under master artists, mirroring the traditional apprenticeship methodology codified in the Ijazah process. We also provide opportunities for Islamic art appreciation, resources, exhibitions, and collections in order to further engage individuals in the Islamic Arts. Our community is open to a diverse global audience of all cultural backgrounds, faiths, and geographical locations.
